The specs of the SanDisk Sansa Connect include an integrated 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi radio, 2.2-inch TFT color display, microSD slot for additional storage capacity, and a 4 GB flash drive. The rechargeable battery is non-removable, there is a single speaker on the back, two volume buttons on the left side, and a hold switch and power button on the top. The headset jack found on the bottom is the standard 3.5 mm type. There are two softkeys that activate on-screen functions just below the display, and there is a directional pad that rotates in a circle and allows you to press it in to activate functions (back, forward, home, play/pause) with a center action/selection button.

The screen of the Sansa Connect is very bright and has great color reproduction. Looking at Flickr photos is really cool thanks to the quality display. The menus of the Sansa Connect also look very cool and colorful. Navigation is easy and intuitive, even if the nav wheel is a bit sensitive. I found myself passing the selection I wanted frequently. I like the ability to get new music from the Yahoo! Music based on top songs and recommendations from my personal rankings of albums and songs. With these songs there is no need to connect the Sansa to your PC to transfer the music, you can download them anywhere WiFi is available.

The player is equipped with a microSD card slot, enabling you to add storage capacity as well as move music files to other devices. The 2.2-inch TFT color screen offers backlit controls and the player has a simple-to-use user interface for quick navigation. The internal, rechargeable lithium-ion battery can be recharged via the included AC adapter or by connecting the player to your PC via the included USB 2.0 cable (which snaps onto the Sansa Connect using the multi-pin universal connector). It’s compatible with PCs running Windows XP or Vista, and requires Windows Media Player 10 or later.

Fortunately, the Connect’s controls complement the interface nicely. Below the screen is a tactile scroll wheel, which can be clicked in four directions as well: “Up” activates the Home function, pulling up the main menu wheel at the bottom of the screen; “Down” starts and stops playback; and “Right” and “Left” serve to shuttle between menu levels and tracks. A dedicated volume rocker sits on the left spine, while the power button and a hold switch reside on the top. The bottom of the unit houses the proprietary USB port and the 3.5mm headphone jack. There’s even a built-in speaker on the rear of the device–of course, you just get mono audio out of it, but it’s still a nice touch. The whole thing has a polished, high-quality feel that is uncharacteristic of most previous SanDisk devices, which are positioned as budget MP3 players.
