iLuv intros the iMM173 dual-dock iPod / iPhone alarm clock

image

Putting two iPhone / iPod docks in an alarm clock is a simple and clever idea that’s so far only shown up in the JVC-PN7 (which we have and love), but it looks like iLuv’s getting in the game as well with the new iMM137. Apart from the two shielded iPhone 3G-compatible docks up top, it’s the usual iLuv kit with 5 watt jAura sound, an aux input, and dual alarms — not a bad deal for an MSRP of $129 that’ll almost certainly be lower at retail when this hits in September.

Family Guy iPod

image

A must have die hard Family Guy fans. Available for a limited time this 160GB iPod costs $439, $90 more than the stock iPod and has Brian scratching his butt saying "That Feels So Good" etched onto the back of your iPod. Each one of these babies are etched with licensed art from the Family Guy camp and individually numbered. Only 2000 pieces are made and they would come in two color variations, black and silver. Oh and Season 7 premiers September 28 starting with ‘Something something dark side’ which will be a parody of Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. Season 7 looks promising with Simpsons. I am particularly looking forward for this one – 6ACX18 “Family of the Future” [Family Guy and Futurama crossover]: Stewie invents a time machine to see if he rules the world in the future. However, the system starts to malfunction, and sends the whole family into the 30th century, where they meet the characters of Futurama. Meanwhile, Stewie befriends Bender and they become pals, but turns Stewie into a robot. Check the Season 7 line up.

Build Your Own Waterproof iPod Video Boombox

image

Popular Mechanics has a great DIY feature, showing you how to build a waterproof video boombox for your iPod. Making use of an iPod touch, some old speakers, an 8" personal video player screen, video cables, gorilla tape and a hard camera case, Anthony Verducci has created a waterproof video case for the iPod that he believes is the first to float.

It seems the hardest part of the process was getting all the cables to interface with eachother. Working with Apple’s composite cables, an old AV iPod dock, and the inputs for the video player, soldering was required to get them all on the same page. The rest was mostly handiwork and a bit of elbow grease. Sure, the final product isn’t exactly practical, but it is fun and imaginative. Check out the full video here

Aiaiai Swirl Earbuds Are The Anti-iPod Headphones

image

Multiple colors? Check. Good sound quality? Supposedly. These Aiaiai Swirl headphones aren’t the ubiquitous iPod earbuds worn by every other person on earth (myself included). Aiaiai, the 200-member collective from Copenhagen, designed these in conjunction with Kilo design, offering straightforward headphones, as well as a headset for cellphones.

Aiaiai wanted to focus on sound quality as much as design, offering a sound isolation and full spectrum sound engineered by C4 Studios. Topped off with multiple colorways and slick packaging, the Swirl earbuds look like winners. The headphones are available for $65 at Digitalflix and the headset cost $81 at Aiaiai.

A ctually the unique shape serves several purposes. It fits snug in your ear, easily loops together around your neck when not in use, and somehow prevents bacterial growth which is 700 times more concentrated in regular ear buds. If it weren’t just a concept, would you buy one?

Head Music Announces Blizzard PMP

image

We loved the Sweex Blizzard when it came out last year. It was a sweet PMP with a Dutch label and great-looking speakers (for a PMP) on top. Head Music’s own Blizzard has a more usual design. It has a 2.8-inch 320 x 240 pixel screen and a home/ return button below the screen, which is much reminiscent of the iPhone and iPod Touch. Other features include AVI, WMV, MPEG4, MP3, WMA, WAV, OGG, JPG, BMP, TXT support, USB 2,0/UMS, FM tuner and recorder, a mic, two audio jacks and 4GB of storage. I love the two audio jacks. For 70 euros ($103) you and your special someone could enjoy squinting together to a romantic movie.

Generation 6: Archos 5, Archos 7, and Internet Media Tablet

image

Archos has just officially announced the their 6th generation of PMPs and even making a splash into the world of 3G connectivity. The interface if felt was a bit awkward on the last generation 605 {link}, mainly due to the fact that it couldn’t quite make up its mind to be touch screen or tactile with the side buttons. It’s not that these hybrid touch/tactile interfaces don’t work, it just didn’t work with the Archos UI. That said I’m glad to see that Archos picked a side and went all touch.

All around it looks like it’s a further refined version of the 5th generation PMPs. This is good news since I thought that the 605 was a fantastic jack of all trades PMP, but it just felt a bit rough.
