The digital audio player market is crammed with products of all imaginable types, colors, shapes and sizes. Making a choice is not as easy as it sounds because most often than not, one would get lost in the endless array of audio players featuring the latest features in digital audio.
But if you are looking for a no-frills type of player, the JVC XA-F107B might just be right for you. The JVC XA-F107B, JVC’s latest addition to the JVC XA-F series is a flash-based MP3 audio player that fits your need for uncomplicated, small-sized player with basic features. It comes in sleek black color, 1GB flash memory that can pack in up to 250 MP3 files or 500 WMA files, and supports the following audio formats: MP3, WMA, and WMA-DRM files. Its simplicity does not compromise its high quality of sound, and enables audio line input recording from analog devices. It has seven pre-set EQ and one in customizable mode.
Shift among seemingly endless lists of music with 8-button controls and menus. Another feature that adds to its portability is its’1.05 ounces weight and small 2.8 by 1.8 by .68 inches size.
Now, if you’re ready to plunk $100 for this, read on before you do.
File transfer via UMS and Windows MP synching is easy but a bit slow at .66 MB per second, which is a far cry from faster transfer rates of other cheaper brands. But WMA-DRM files cannot be played back when transferred with “drag and drop”, so the Windows Media Player must be used for transferring WMA-DRM files.
The volume controls and headphone jack is so close to one another that you have to grope your way to the controls. Another downside: it takes time to browse through the list of tracks because only three items can be displayed in the monochromatic LCD at a time. Just imagine how long it takes to scroll down through hundreds of stored tracks.
As expected of flash-based MP3 players, the AC adapter is not included in the pack so it has a non-removable, rechargeable battery that can be loaded up via USB. It is claimed to have a an 11-hours playback time and 15 hours battery life, but tests showed it performing at 13.5 hours at the most.
Generally, the JVC XA-F107B is a good choice for users looking for non-complicated features in MP3 players, but a bit overpriced for budget-conscious buyers.
