If the iRiver Clix looks familiar, that’s because it’s simply an improved version of the iRiver U10. You get the same cool, miniature TV-like design and great features, alongside an enhanced user interface and superb integration with Windows Media Player 11 and MTV Urge. In fact, the device is launching in tandem with the media software and the music service because Microsoft, iRiver, and MTV worked closely to create the perfect symbiotic relationship between software, service, and hardware. We at CNET hesitate to call anything perfect, but iRiver comes close with the Clix. Tagged at $199.99, the 2GB Clix is much more competitively priced than its predecessor. Of course, we’d love to see a 4GB, 6GB, or even 8GB version in the near future. Still, if you’re looking for a WMA device and can handle 2GB of storage, check out this MP3 player–we’re enamored with it.

The flash player market has been changing rapidly over these past months. Prices are at an all time low and many companies are taking notice of this opportunity. A few months ago iriver revealed the U10, a player that automatically caught my eyes, and those of many other members. It was a beautiful device with a lot of great features. It was not only one of the first mainstream flash players with a color screen, but also one of the first to add video. Unfortunately, the U10 took a few hits due to issues with the interface, as well as the high price tag. What everyone truly wished for, was a higher capacity.

The iriver Clix is a rebranded version of last year’s iriver U10, which offered a groundbreaking new design in an overpriced package. The Clix is physically identical to its predecessor, but its interface has been overhauled, its performance improved, its capacity increased, and its price has dropped substantially. The 2GB model costs $199.99 (list), which is in line with Apple’s 2GB iPod nano. Iriver has been working with Microsoft and MTV to pair the device closely with those companies’ forthcoming Urge online music service. And the player’s preloaded Macromedia Flash-based video game set now includes Sudoku. Goodbye, sweet productivity!
