The iYiYi from Tivoli Audio combines an iPod docking station with a built-in AM/FM tuner and alarm clock, making it the ideal iPod speaker system for radio lovers. The system’s centerpiece is the universal docking station, which amplifies and recharges any iPod with a 30-pin dock connector, including the iPod 3G/4G, iPod photo, iPod video, iPod mini, and iPod nano. As a result, you can listen to your favorite iPod songs and playlists in the bedroom, garage, kitchen, or any other room in the house, all without the use of headphones. The iYiYi’s highly sensitive AM/FM tuner, meanwhile, sports internal and external FM antennas and a built-in AM antenna to handle reception, while also offering 10 station presets (five AM and five FM) for quick and easy channel tuning. The radio even includes a seek function that automatically searches for your favorite stations while you listen. It’s a particularly handy system for bedside tables and office bookshelves, as the footprint measures only 11.88 by 7.36 by 8.66 inches (W x H x D).
From an audio perspective, the iYiYi offers a pair of 3-inch, full-range, bass reflex speakers that deliver an extended bass response and superior sound quality. In addition to sharing design elements, the iYiYi offers many of the same features found on other Tivoli Audio radios as well: 10 radio presets (five AM, five FM), sleep and snooze timers, an alarm clock function (wake to the radio, an iPod, or a beeping tone), and an LCD readout. If you don’t have an iPod–or you’ve got an older, nondocking version or a Shuffle–you can jack in to the iYiYi’s line-in port. Alternately, you can opt to use the mixing input, which allows you to hear an external source (say, your computer) along with whatever else is playing. There’s also an audio line-out jack (although no video), plus a headphone jack on the front.

The system includes a blue backlit LCD display that will show you what source the music is coming from; it supports Radio Data System (RDS) information where available, so it’ll tell you what you’re tuned to and what you’re listening to (if the radio station transmits that information).
iyiyiThe LCD also acts as a digital clock, which supports an alarm and a 20-minute sleep timer. The power transformer is built in so there’s no “wall wart” that sticks out from a power outlet — just a regular cable.

The iYiYi’s playful name hints at its playful nature. Far from being just another iPod Audio system, the iYiYi trumps other iPod playback systems by adding new capabilities to this growing category of products.
Long known for their superb radios, Tivoli Audio has included a sensitive Stereo FM/AM tuner. In addition to being able to listen to and control your iPod, the iYiYi adds auxiliary and mixing inputs. Both inputs allow you to connect a CD player, computer, TV, or even a game console to your iYiYi and enjoy the Sound Tivoli products are well known for.
