


It’s hard not to get excited about a product that looks as cool as Griffin’s Evolve Wireless Sound System for iPod. The silver-and-black set is seriously slick, and the removable, wireless speaker cubes, which can be used in stereo or mono mode, offer lots of wire-free listening flexibility. If looks were everything, the Evolve would be a true winner. Sadly, it just doesn’t sound very good. Although the range is broad, the set sounds tinny; plus, it has poor low-end presence and obvious balance-shifting issues. The concept is excellent, the dock is sexy, and additional speaker cubes can be purchased to expand the set, but for $300, the Evolve should sound much better than it does.
