The race for producing your own power is on this year, we are looking at solar chargers, wind power, and also lets not forget the knee strap. But what we are presenting now is the news that’s way too cool to just ignore. The Eco-Pod which is a wind-up music & video player, invented by the maverick inventor Trevor Baylis the ‘greenPod’, which can play music for 20 hours before needing a recharge. Turning it for only a minute produces enough power to play 40 minutes of songs - a boon for music lovers who don’t remember to charge their iPod before they leave the house. Officially called the Eco Media Player, it can store up to 500 songs and comes complete with an FM radio, torch, voice recorder and video player. It costs around £140 and even doubles as an emergency mobile phone charger. What else can you ask for at that price!! Mr Baylis, 70, believes his invention will appeal to the growing number of "eco-conscious" shoppers. Mr Baylis is the British inventor whose claim to fame was the windup radio in. He came up with the idea in 1989 after watching a television documentary about Aids in Africa. The original wind-up radio, launched in 1992, used a large spring to release power over a few hours and was particularly popular with campers and holiday-makers. The e-Pod can play music for an astonishing 20 hours before needing to be charged, beat that Apple or Sony or anyone! I cant wait for this guy to come up with the windup Laptop, that will be the day I meet him personally to thank him.
