Enjoy skipless music playback, photo slideshows, and videos with the sleek, easily-pocketable SanDisk Sansa e270 flash memory digital audio player with 6 GB of storage. It features MP3 and WMA playback and is also compatible with secure PlaysForSure WMA files downloaded from online music stores and subscription services (like MTV’s Urge, Napster, and Rhapsody). It also includes a digital FM tuner (with record function), voice recorder (via built-in microphone), and a brightly colorful 1.8-inch color TFT LCD screen.

The e270 isn’t loaded with extraneous buttons all around the device, but rather it features a minimalist design. All you will find on the exterior are the navigation buttons and a scroll wheel on the front (with a bright display); the headphones jack and the hold switch at the top; a microSD expansion card slot to the right; a record button on the left; and the dock connector on the bottom. Even though the navigation buttons were a pleasure to use, the scroll wheel wasn’t impressive at all. Because of the flimsy scroll wheel, we were left disappointed at the end of the day. How could SanDisk give so much attention to every aspect of the e270, but tag a disappointing scroll wheel? It doesn’t make sense. On the contrary, the navigation buttons are so wonderfully integrated that even if you don’t disable their functionality with the hold switch, they won’t cause havoc in a pocket.

The SanDisk Sansa e200’s 1.8-inch screen is oriented in portrait mode, and gives the user lots of real estate for navigation. It is much bigger than the Nano’s 1.5-inch screen. Videos are viewed holding the e200 in landscape orientation. Although the screen is bright and colorful, it has a maximum resolution of only 220×176 and 65,000 colors, though SanDisk says it’s possible that a future version could go up to 260,000 colors. Thus, photos, videos, and album art won’t dazzle. However, the color interface, coupled with the well-designed menu system, gives the player a premium feel.

The Sansa may not be the smallest MP3 player you’ll ever see, but it certainly isn’t the biggest either, measuring up at 89mm high and 44mm wide, with a depth of 13mm - Easily small enough to slip comfortably into even the smallest of pockets, meaning that you won’t have any worries carrying the Sansa around. A fair amount of the real estate on the front of the device is, naturally, taken up by its screen, which itself is 45.7mm by 38.11mm. The rest of the player is taken up with a small power button in the bottom-left corner (which also doubles up to allow access to the main menu screen when the player is running), a scroll wheel to cycle through options with a large button to select them in its centre, and four buttons placed around the wheel to allow for items to be played and paused, tracks skipped or fast forwarded/reversed through, or relevant context menus to be displayed. When powered on and in use, the scroll wheel is lit by a blue LED as per every other piece of technology on this planet these days. Even if you’re the type to skip reading the manual, you’ll have little difficulty getting to grips with using the Sansa - Quite simply, the user interface is superbly intuitive.
